APPERANCE OF MILK-TEETH.

APPERANCE OF MILK-TEETH.

 APPERANCE OF MILK-TEETH.

The first set of teeth, or milk-teeth as they're called, are twenty in number; they typically appear in pairs, and people of the mandible generally precede the corresponding ones of the upper. the primary of the milk-teeth is usually cut about the sixth or seventh month, and therefore the last of the set at various periods from the 20 th to the thirtieth months. Thus the entire period occupied by the primary dentition could also be estimated at from a year and a half to 2 years. the method varies, however, in several individuals, both on its whole duration, and on the periods and order during which the teeth make their appearance. it's unnecessary, however, to feature more upon now .

Their developement may be a natural action it's too frequently, however, rendered a painful and difficult one, by errors within the management of the regimen and health of the infant, previously to the approaching of the teeth, and through the method itself.

Thus, chiefly in consequence of injudicious management, it's made the foremost critical period of childhood. Not that i think the extent of mortality fairly traceable thereto , is by any means so great as has been stated; for it's rated as high together sixth of all the youngsters who undergo it. Still, nobody doubts that first dentition is usually a period of great danger to the infant. It therefore becomes a really important question to an anxious and affectionate mother, how the risks and difficulties of teething can in any degree be diminished, or, if possible, altogether prevented. a couple of hints upon this subject, then, could also be useful. I shall consider, first, the management of the infant, when teething is accomplished without difficulty; and, secondly, the management of the infant when it's attended with difficulty.

Management of the infant when teething is easily . ------------------------------------------------------------

In the child of a healthy constitution, which has been properly, that is, naturally, fed, upon the milk of its mother alone, the symptoms attending teething are going to be of the mildest kind, and therefore the management of the infant most straightforward and straightforward .

Symptoms:- The symptoms of natural dentition (which this might be fairly called) are, an increased flow of saliva, with swelling and warmth of the gums, and infrequently flushing of the cheeks. the kid frequently thrusts its fingers, or any thing within its grasp, into its mouth. Its thirst is increased, and it takes the breast more frequently, though, from the tender state of the gums, for shorter periods than usual. it's fretful and restless; and sudden fits of crying and occasional ranging from sleep, with a small tendency to vomiting, and even looseness of the bowels, aren't uncommon. Many of those symptoms often precede the looks of the tooth by several weeks, and indicate that what's called "breeding the teeth" goes on. In such cases, the symptoms disappear during a few days, to recur again when the tooth approaches the surface of the gum.

Treatment:- The management of the infant during this case is extremely simple, and rarely involves the interference of the medical attendant. the kid need to be much within the outdoors , and well exercised: the bowels should be kept freely open with castor oil; and be always gently relaxed at this point . Cold sponging employed daily, and therefore the surface of the body rubbed dry with as rough a flannel because the delicate skin of the kid will bear; friction being very useful. The breast should tend often, but not for long at a time; the thirst will thus be allayed, the gums kept moist and relaxed, and their irritation soothed, without the stomach being overloaded. The mother must also carefully attend, at this point , to her own health and diet, and avoid all stimulant food or drinks.

From the instant dentition begins, pressure on the gums are going to be found to be agreeable to the kid , by numbing the sensibility and dulling the pain. For this purpose coral is typically employed, or a bit of orris-root, or scraped liquorice root; a flat ivory ring, however, is way safer and better, for there's no danger of its being thrust into the eyes or nose. Gentle friction of the gums, also, by the finger of the nurse, is agreeable to the infant; and, because it seems to possess some effect in allaying irritation, could also be frequently resorted to. In France, it's considerably the practice to dip the liquorice-root, and other substances, into honey, or powdered sugar-candy; and in Germany, alittle bag, containing a mix of sugar and spices, is given to the infant to suck, whenever it's fretful and uneasy during teething. The constant use, however, of sweet and stimulating ingredients must do injury to the stomach, and renders their employment very objectionable.
